To obtain a certified copy of a birth certificate from San Francisco County, it must be for you or your child, legal ward, parent, grandparent, grandchild, sibling, spouse, or state-registered domestic partner. However, we have successfully obtained certified birth certificate copies on behalf of our clients when they sign a Limited Power of Attorney giving one of our agents authority to retrieve it on their behalf. This document can be signed electronically via Remote Online Notarization (RON).While California does not yet permit RON signings, we have partner notaries in other states who can perform the notarization. You can be anywhere in the world during a RON session. You just need a valid ID and a computer, tablet, or smartphone and reliable internet access.After the remote online signing, our partner notary will share the certified PDF with us, and our agent will print it out and bring it to the San Francisco County Clerk (if the individual is older than three) or the Vital Records Office (if the individual is under three).
