Certificate of Naturalization Apostille

Need a Certificate of Naturalization apostille? SF Notary + Apostille explains how the process works.

What is a Certificate of Naturalization?

“The Certificate of Naturalization contains certain required information identifying the person and confirming the person’s U.S. citizenship through naturalization,” according to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

It contains the naturalized person’s USCIS registration number (A-number), name, marital status, place of residence, and country of former nationality, as well as a photograph, signature, and other descriptors.

What is a Certificate of Naturalization apostille?

A Certificate of Naturalization apostille is a certification process that validates your Certificate of Naturalization so that it can be legally recognized by foreign governments and entities. Overseas parties may require an apostilled copy of your Certificate of Naturalization for matters that include your retaining your citizenship in your country of origin, or perhaps your application to live, work, or study abroad.

At the present time, it is taking about two weeks to obtain a US State Department apostille on a Certificate of Naturalization.

How do I get my Certificate of Naturalization apostilled or authenticated?

Step 1: Place an order for a certified true copy of your Certificate of Naturalization with USCIS

We can obtain apostilles on recently issued Certificates of Naturalization; however, most certificate holders choose not to apostille the original document, as they prefer to retain it. Instead, they typically opt to apostille a certified true copy.

To obtain a certified true copy of a Certificate of Naturalization, the certificate holder must bring the original certificate and a photocopy to a scheduled appointment with a USCIS field officer at their local USCIS office. During the appointment, the officer will review the documents and request the issuance of a certified true copy, which will be mailed once it is ready.

At this time, these appointments can only be scheduled by phone. Call +1 (800) 375-5283 and tell the automated attendant that you need a copy of your Certificate of Naturalization. You should be connected to a live representative who can help you book the appointment. Please note that it may take several days to schedule, and the appointment itself could be several days or weeks out.

USCIS notes:

When you go to your appointment, be sure to bring your original Certificate of Naturalization and a photocopy of it. Also bring a valid form of photo identification, such as a driver’s license or passport. A USCIS officer will review the documents and may certify the copy if they can confirm your identity and status as a naturalized citizen. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, through U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, will issue the Certified True Copy and return it, along with the original documents, to the requester.

Step 2: Email us for a price quote

Pricing varies depending on which country it’s going to be presented in, your location, and the shipping destination. For a quick price quote, send an email to [email protected] with the following information:

  • Your name, location, and telephone number
  • The name, delivery address, phone number, and email address of the person to whom we will ship the apostilled/authenticated document (please include the business name if we are shipping to a business)
  • The name of the destination country

We will respond without delay with a price quote and payment instructions. Once we receive payment, we will start the apostille/authentication process.

Step 3: Get the Certificate of Naturalization to us

For clients in the San Francisco Bay Area, we may be able to pick up the certified copy of your Certificate of Naturalization from your home or office. Depending on the distance, a small additional fee may apply.

If you’re located outside the area—or if it’s simply more convenient—we can email you a FedEx Priority Overnight shipping label that you can print and use to send your certificate to us. We will send you an invoice by email that contains a secure payment link for credit card payments and instructions for alternatively paying through PayPal.

Step 4: We do the rest

If the documents will be presented in a Hague Apostille Convention member country, we will obtain an apostille from the US Secretary of State in Washington, DC. For countries that are not Hague Apostille Convention members, U.S. State Department plus additional certifications may be required. We will provide you with the costs and details in our price quote. Once the document is apostilled or fully-authenticated, we’ll sent you an image of the document and ship it to its final destination via FedEx Priority Overnight Service (USA destinations) or FedEx International Priority Service (overseas destinations).
