What is a CA DOJ fingerprint background check?
The California Department of Justice (DOJ) “is mandated to maintain the statewide criminal record repository for the State of California,” according to its website. “In this capacity, sheriff, police and probation departments, district attorney offices, and courts submit arrest and corresponding disposition information. The DOJ uses this information to compile records of arrest and prosecution, known as ‘RAP sheets,’ for individuals and disseminates the information for law enforcement and regulatory (employment and licensing) purposes.”
California background checks are also called CA DOJ background checks, RAP sheets, fingerprint background checks, or Live Scan background checks.
What is a CA DOJ fingerprint background check apostille?
A fingerprint background check apostille is a certification process that validates your California criminal record for use abroad. Overseas parties may require an apostilled copy of your background check in connection with your application to live, work, or study abroad.
How do I get my CA DOJ Live Scan background check apostilled or authenticated?
1. Visit a Live Scan site and have your electronic fingerprint read.
They will take your fingerprint and send it electronically to the California DOJ. You will receive your report in the mail.
2. Make sure the background check is signed.
When you receive your report, make sure that a state official has signed it. Sometimes they send the report without a signature, and it can’t be apostilled.
If your background check is not signed, email a copy of the letter to [email protected] and include your name, date of birth, and Automated Transaction Identifier (ATI) number. Ask them to send you a SIGNED background check letter for apostille purposes. They will mail you a new background check.
3. Email us for a price quote.
Pricing varies depending on what country it’s going to, your location, the turnaround time needed, and the shipping destination. For a quick price quote, send an email to [email protected] with the following information:
- Your name, address, and phone number
- The name, address, phone number, and email address of the recipient (if you’d like us to ship it to a third party)
- The destination country
- A confirmation that you have a signed copy of your background check
We will respond ASAP with a price quote and payment instructions.
